Best Chef Resignation Letter Example (+ Free Template Download)

A chef resignation letter indicates to the general manager that the chef would like to relieve their duties as a cook, line cook, or head chef within a restaurant or hospitality establishment. Before resigning, a chef should speak with the restaurant manager to determine the appropriate next steps for transitioning out of the position and training a replacement. The employee may be required or asked to stay with the restaurant longer than two weeks to help train a replacement.

Employees may want to include reasons for why they’re deciding to resign from their position. Good reasons include:

  • Wanting to pursue a new career path, new job, or new Chef position.
  • For a personal reason.
  • Desiring a career change, no longer wanting to be in the hospitality profession.

Restaurant Manager

Dear Bryan —

With a heavy heart, I must submit a notice for my employment to end at the ideal date of September 1, 2019, and relieve my duties as Chef of the Bull & Bear Establishment. My time with this restaurant was nothing more than spectacular.

I was able to learn how to become a chef here truly. And it will be difficult for me not to be part of the team regularly. We have made more than 10,000 customers extremely happy with their meals.

I have spoken with Matthew Smith regarding training my replacement and ensuring a smooth transition. Thank you again for this opportunity to serve your patrons and be part of your restaurant establishment.

Sincerely,
John Smith
